SENIORS: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Assistance) is now open. This is the only application for TOPS, grants, loans, parent loans and work study for financial assistance for college and technical school for the 2017-18 academic year. Get your FAFSA filled out as soon as possible. www.fafsa.gov
Black Heritage Festival Scholarship: must have a 3.0GPA and an ACT score of “20 or higher.” Scholarship application available atwww.bhflc.org or in the counselor’s office. Deadline: February 25, 2017.
**Junior League of Lake Charles “Branch Out and Grow” Scholarship: must attend high school or college in the 5-parish area (Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis Parishes);
must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) based on a 4.0 scale; be a female high school senior, attending college or graduating college (for graduate school); exhibit a commitment to volunteerism; and cannot be an immediate relative of JLLC Active or Sustaining member. Deadline: March 8, 2017.
LHSAA/ALLSTATE Sugar Bowl Scholarship: must be a graduating student-athlete with a 3.5GPA after 7 semesters of high school and a 24 ACT score. Should possess desirable leadership qualities, have displayed good citizenship in their school and community. Ten $1500 scholarships will be awarded: five male and 5 female. Deadline: Must be postmarked by Friday, March 10, 2017.
LHSAA/Fuzzy Brown Memorial Scholarship: must be a 2016-2017 registered student athlete; must plan to attend a Louisiana university/college; Two $1500 scholarships will be awarded. Deadline: must be postmarked by Friday, March 10, 2017.
2017 Louisiana 4-H Scholarships: there are many scholarships with one application. Applications will cover the last three years of 4-H work (no project book is required).
Parish 4-H Agent must validate all 4-H information submitted is accurate. Deadline: Must be received in the Louisiana 4-H office by Friday, March 10, 2017 by 4:30PM.
The Fort Polk Spouses' Club Scholarship is open to dependents of Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard service members, dependents of retirees, and Gold Star family members. These dependents can be children or spouses. They just need to submit a DEERS enrollment form (DD-1172-2). Additionally, applicants are not limited to high school seniors pursuing a traditional undergraduate degree. Our scholarship is open to any dependent who will study full-time at an accredited undergraduate, graduate or vocational school during the 2017-2018 school year. Deadline: March 13, 2017.
The Louisiana Middle School Association Scholarship: will award a $1000.00 scholarship to high school seniors entering the field of education. Must write a 300-500 word essay explaining why you want to become a teacher. Deadline: March 15, 2017.
Beauregard Electric Scholarship: this year BECI will award 10 $1500 scholarships. These scholarships are selected by random drawing. You must have a 2.0 GPA and plan to attend a college/university in Louisiana. You must receive your electricity from Beauregard Electric, and your parent’s account must be in good standing for at least 12 months. Deadline: March 17, 2017. You may pick up an application in the counselor’s office or apply online at www.beci.org.
Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association Youth Scholarship: available to sons and daughters of active-duty Law Enforcement and Fire Service Personnel. Scholarships are $2500 & $1000 for the top two in the state. State winner will be eligible to compete for the National scholarship as well. Application & guidelines are available online at http://www.llssa.org. Deadline: March 24, 2017.
2017 Marietta Jenkins “BeauCARE” Scholarship: must be a graduating senior of a Beauregard parish high school, 3.0GPA, must have been a participant in any BeauCARE program, and must have completed at least 15 hours or more of volunteer work throughBeauCARE or BeauCARE Head Start. Deadline: March 31, 2017.
Walmart Dependents Scholarship: for students who have a parent or guardian actively working as a Walmart associate for at least 6 consecutive months or more. Deadline: April 1, 2017. Apply online at http://programs.applyists.com/walmartdependent/
Dixie Boys Baseball: Bernie Varnadore Scholarship Program: provides eleven $1250 cash awards. Available for seniors who have participated in a franchised Dixie Boys Baseball program and plan to pursue undergraduate studies at a college or university. Deadline: April 1, 2017.
Beauregard Parish Cattleman’s Association Scholarship: the scholarship is open to any parish graduating senior, but additional points will be allotted to those students who have ties to the Cattle Industry. Scholarship Application due in the 4-H office no later than Monday, April 3, 2107.
The Kyle Andrew Broussard FCA Memorial Scholarship is offering FOUR $1,000 college scholarships, two to young men and two to young women. Deadline: March 31, 2017.
The qualifications for the FCA scholarship are
• A committed Christian, whose beliefs are in full agreement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Statement of Faith (enclosed in the packet);
• A student whose life exemplifies the ideals of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
• Entering college freshman
• An active participant in FCA programs and has played a sport in High School.
• A good student academically, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
Altec Industries Scholarship: $500; The award is open to all children of active ALEC (Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives) member cooperatives. 2.5GPA and a graduate of 2017. Deadline: June 26, 2017.
